So we’re back again this year with a new selection of designs and importantly a great way to support the 15 May School.

Concept for 2006 Christmas Cards

The concept of this year’s Christmas cards is to capture a truthful moment in the lives of the students at 15 May School. We hope to reveal that behind the smiles on their faces, these children endure tougher circumstances than other children of Hcmc, Vietnam. Through these images, we celebrate their perseverance, their triumphs over hardships, and their optimism for the future. These characteristics, along with the joy the children express through their everyday lives that has become deep inspirations for the school staff and volunteers of 15 May School. We hope it will inspire you too.

What is Tet?

Tết Nguyên Đán (or in English, 'Feast of the First Morning') is the most important holiday in Vietnam. This holiday is more commonly known by its shortened name Tết. Tet is the Vietnamese New Year which is based on the Chinese calendar, which in turn is based on the lunar calendar. The Tết holiday is celebrated from the first day of the first month of the Chinese calendar (around late January or early February) until at least the third day. Many Vietnamese prepare for Tết by cooking special holiday foods and cleaning the house. On Tết, Vietnamese people traditionally visit their families and temples, forget about the troubles of the past year and hope for a better upcoming year. Tết traditionally marks the coming of Spring, so the renewal of life also plays a big role in Tết celebrations.

Designers

The 2006 cards were designed by 15 May School volunteer Yen Tran and photographed by 15 May School volunteer Katherine Stanbury . All the cards feature the students of the 15 May School.

Proceeds

All proceeds from 15 May School’s Christmas & Tet Cards go directly towards helping 15 May School provide free education and vocational training to some of Ho Chi Minh City’s poorest children.
