Education for Development (EFD) sponsored 15 May School in 2005 by providing them with the necessary equipment to run a vocational bakery program. Accordingly, we now have a fully-equipped bakery
.
In 2006 Coca-Cola Bottling Vietnam provided additional funding that has enabled a training programme to commence. The students undertake bakery class twice a week. In this programme they are taught about hygiene standards, baking requirements and importantly how to bake.
In 2007 students who showed interest in cooking/baking were offered
cooking and baking classes in the Bakery Programme. So far this year 2 groups of students have successfully completed a cooking course with 2 more groups currently taking the baking course, generously given by Sozo. Sozo is a not-for-profit organization with a cafe based on Bui Vien St. district 1 where they specializes in making cookies, muffins and other sweet delights.
In the cooking classes, students learn the basics of cooking hygiene, food preparation, food presentation and serving methods. Students have learnt to make traditional Vietnamese Cuisine along with simple drinks and deserts.
In the baking classes students learn basics of health and safety issues in the kitchen and how to make basic cakes, cookies and muffins.
